Welcome to the Seeker Study Forum

by RLM 3/11/2008 2:01:00 PM

When we started Salt Shaker Ministries five years ago we had no idea that the Lord would open so many opportunities to lead Salt Shaker Conferences internationally. We have been enormously encouraged by the number of Seeker Bible studies that have started around the world. As a result, we are not only hearing encouraging testimonies but I’m also being asked perceptive questions.

We want to share the questions and answers and stories with everyone. We have set up this Blog to be a forum for encouragement and practical help for anyone leading or considering leading a Seeker Study. We trust that we will all learn useful lessons from each other about how to reach today’s seekers and skeptics.

One of God’s greatest gifts to us has been the privilege of seeing what He is doing around the world. As a participant in this forum you will be able to read stories of people who may be leading the same study as you - but in a land and culture quite distinct from your own.

A recent example:  Two weeks ago I received an email from a man who is the Chief of Surgery at a very large hospital in Washington DC. He is leading a Seeker Study for men and has used all 3 of my Seeker Guides. In sharing his  excitement about what God is doing in this study he wrote: ““Your study in Luke really seems to be written, (to use the very words of one of the seekers in my group) "with him in mind". The discussion starter questions get right to what are his core issues and so it feels so relevant and personal to him. I’m very pleased and I think we are making good progress.”

Less than 5 minutes later I received an email from a banker in Malaysia who is about to start a Seeker group for men and was asking for prayer and encouragement. I emailed my Malaysian friend back and shared the progress being made in Washington, DC – a Seeker study being led by an American Christian man he will likely never meet until Heaven – but who encouraged him just the same!

Last week we conducted a live hour and a half webcast (via SKYPE) from my study here in Louisville, Kentucky to Malaysia. We had given a Salt Shaker conference there this past fall. The meeting was held so that I could greet those who were leading Seeker Studies and hear their stories and respond to their questions. It was a tremendous encouragement to us to see the faces of people we have grown to love.

Let me hear from you. It will help us all to know if the problems and challenges we experience vary from culture to culture. Are the questions that seekers ask around the world different from those in Western cultures like America, Europe or Australia?

Finally, let us pray (to paraphrase the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelism) that God may empower us all to share the whole gospel with the whole world!

Warmest greetings, Becky
