FAQ

What are the most frequently asked questions about Seeker Bible studies?

WHERE SHOULD WE MEET?

It’s best to have the study in a neutral place like someone’s home. If it is with business colleagues then an empty office will also do.

WHO SHOULD WE INVITE?

This isn’t a “cold call” approach to evangelism but a deeply relational one. Perhaps you will first need to invest in intentional friendships. Look at the people God has already placed in your life. Then pray and ask God to give you a sense of who to invite: consider inviting neighbors, workmates, people with whom you participate in sports or hobbies.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD WE MEET?

I suggest it be once a week with only one study per week. But be flexible – if they want to meet every other week then so do so. Also be sure to find the right time that fits everyone’s schedule.

HOW DO WE ISSUE INVITATIONS?

Do it personally not through flyers or signs.  Ask them to come just once to see how they like it (they nearly always do). This deals with their fear that they might be signing up for life! Tell them they don’t have to believe in Jesus or the Bible – they can come with their questions and doubts and feel welcome.  Then reevaluate after a 3 weeks with them – ask them if they’d like to continue (they nearly always do!)

WHAT KIND OF ATMOSPHERE?

It’s critical that this be a safe people where skeptics or seekers won’t feel embarrassed that they don’t know the Bible. We don’t push our faith down their throats. We also are unshockable. The atmosphere needs to be fun and casual. I tell those coming to think of it like a BOOK CLUB – only the book we will be looking at is the Bible; more precisely one of the biographies of the life of Jesus. Also it is critical that the MAJORITY be seekers – if you fill it with Christians you will sabotage the purpose of the study before you’ve started.

WHICH SEEKER GUIDE SHOULD WE START WITH?

I often suggest starting with, Looking at the Life of Jesus, my study of 7 passages in John’s Gospel. If they want to continue then you might consider doing Spirituality According To Jesus which is my study on the 1st half of Luke. If there is still interest then follow it with People Who Met Jesus which is the last half of Luke. However, feel free to start with whatever YOU feel lead to do.
